about

Seattle in the late 1990s was an exciting place for electronic music. Close friends Mike Perkowitz, Peter Schenk, and Tom Butcher formed Heatsync in 1995 originally out of their shared love for analog synthesizers. Over several Friday nights in the summer and fall of 1995, Mike and Tom would pile up their gear in Mike's Honda CRX and drive over to Peter's, where the band would spend the night recording.

Now available digitally for the first time, Heatsync's Jupiter EP comprises four songs taken from those sessions all inspired by the Roland Jupiter-8. Peter's Jupiter had a weird quirk though, which caused it to behave erratically - but in a musical way. So the Jupiter was the unofficial fourth member of the band on this EP.

Each track was composed and recorded in one night and recorded directly to a Sony portable digital audio tape recorder.

Partial list of equipment used: Roland Jupiter-8, Roland TR-909, Roland SH-101, Roland TB-303, Roland MKS-80, Roland Juno-106, Roland CR-8000, Moog Source, Akai S3000XL, Kawai K-5m, PPG Wave 2.2, Korg KMS-30, Ibanez UE-405, Ensoniq DP/2, Atari 1040ST, Kenton PRO-4, Mackie CR-1604

This digital release of the Jupiter EP was remastered in 2022 by Tom Butcher.

about

Heatsync Seattle, Washington

Heatsync was a hot property in the late 1990s and early 2000s Seattle electronic music scene.

With high-energy shows at underground parties and local clubs, Heatsync was always a crowd-pleasing show of melodic electronic beats. They released one official recording in 1996, the Jupiter EP, and have a treasure trove of unreleased music.
